Pizza Day!

Every Wednesday is Pizza Day at SeyegoHard work deserves reward. That’s why every Wednesday is Pizza Day at Seyego. Sure our employees would prefer company cars and personal expense accounts, but free food can be just as satisfying. Just don’t get in anyone’s way while they’re going for the green olive pizza; it’s always the first to disappear. Mushroom seems to be everyone’s second favorite, followed by pepperoni. Poor plain cheese always gets passed over on Wednesday, but makes for a tasty Thursday morning breakfast for those who come to work early enough.

Pizza Day gives us the opportunity to take a break from the daily grind and enjoy some interaction with our fellow co-workers. We try not to discuss work, but you know how hard that is when you’re hanging out in the office. Nevertheless, relaxation, socialization, and over-consumption is strongly encouraged. Now to figure out how to stop people from napping afterward.

Data Entry Associate Breaks Hand

Data EntryProductivity came to a screeching halt Tuesday when Data Entry Associate, Katie arrived to work with a broken hand. Doctors say she fractured the scaphoid bone in her right hand while warding off a sneak attack from her cat, Spooky. The cat allegedly assaulted Katie in a failed robbery attempt. Katie had been in the process of opening a can of Fancy Feast when Spooky, who was hiding on top of the kitchen cabinets, launched an air attack from above.

Authorities were called to the scene and took Spooky into custody. In a statement to the press, Captain Stam of the Phoenix Feline Task Force, indicated that a full investigation into the incident was underway, however no charges have been filed as of yet. If convicted of assault and attempted noms theft, Spooky faces 2 weeks in a maximum security feline rehabilitation facility.

“I just want to put the whole thing behind me, and move on with my life,” said Katie.

Since the alleged attack, Katie has trained herself to type over 120wpm with just her left hand.

When asked if she regrets her actions, Spooky responded nonchalantly, “Meow.”

A Picture is Worth a Few Keywords

Little boy poses with brown dog for portrait in the park on a sunny day.Today’s tip of the day is to maximize the effectiveness of the images on your website.

When a website is optimized for search engine indexing, most of the focus goes into creating keyword-rich, relevant content. Often, however, the SEO value of graphics and images on the site are overlooked. There are several opportunities to improve your search engine exposure and ranking by tweaking a few simple image and graphic settings.

File Name
The very first thing you should do when adding images to your site is to name them appropriately because the names of the image files are searchable. Since no one is ever going to search for P709821.jpg, ever, if you’re adding an image of a boy with a dog, you should name it something like boy-with-dog. Imagine that!

Alt Text
Next, you want to make sure your “alt text” is relevant to your image or your content. Alt text is the text that appears if the user cannot see the image or has turned images off on their browser. The alt text is also searchable by the search engines as well, so it should describe what the image is about in relation to the content on the page. So, if your photo is of a boy with a dog, and the web page is about taking portraits with your pets, your alt text could be, “Little boy and his brown dog pose for portrait in the grass at the park on a sunny day.” You want to make the alt text descriptive and make use of keywords in order to increase the chances of someone searching for a specific element in your photo.

Title Text
Another element that should not be overlooked, is the image title. Many SEO’s don’t distinguish between image alt text and title text, and often use the same text for both. Image title text, however, in our opinion should follow the same rules as any other title text, in that it should be short and relevant. “Boy with Dog” or “Family and Pet Portraits” could be acceptable title text for our example photo.

Image Size
Image size also plays a part in SEO. Google recently announced that they will weigh how fast your site loads when determining ranking. While we’re sure it won’t be a major factor, when it comes to SEO, the goal is to satisfy as many search engine criteria as possible. In order to improve load times, it’s important to resize your images before you post them on your site. Resizing them in the HTML using the height and width tags does not affect the size of the image file, nor how long it takes to appear on the screen. It only changes the dimensions. Resizing and saving the images using an image editing program such as Photoshop will reduce the file size and load times of your images.

Image Quality
It’s also recommended that you optimize the image quality to improve load times. Images viewed on a website, unless specifically used for print, do not have to be super high resolution images. When viewed on a computer screen, for web only use, the difference between high and low resolution images are practically imperceptible. Image editing software makes it easy to convert your high-res images to website-friendly formats.
